New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) In a remarkable show of solidarity and dedication to the Global South, India has dispatched a shipment of 300,000 doses of Measles and Rubella vaccines, along with essential supplies, to assist Bolivia in combatting the ongoing outbreak of this disease. Bolivia declared a National Health Emergency last month due to a surge in measles cases.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared on X, "India has sent a consignment comprising 300,000 doses of Measles and Rubella vaccines and ancillary supplies to aid Bolivia in tackling the outbreak. India stands firm in its support for its friends in the Global South."

As of July 14, Bolivia's Ministry of Health and Sports reported 119 confirmed cases of measles, with the majority—98 cases—located in Santa Cruz. Other affected areas include La Paz (10 cases), Potosi (4), Beni (3), Chuquisaca (2), and one case each in Oruro and Pando.

This delivery of vaccines follows a recent conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bolivian President Luis Alberto Arce Catacora at the BRICS Summit in Brazil earlier this month, where both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the progress made.

They also discussed collaboration in vital sectors, including critical minerals, trade, digital infrastructure, health, and pharmaceuticals, along with training and capacity building.

India and Bolivia maintain a strong and friendly relationship, with promising opportunities for bilateral trade and investment. Both nations are committed to enhancing their engagement and building partnerships in various sectors, including infrastructure development and health.

In the past, India has also provided medical aid to Bolivia. In August 2020, India contributed a medical shipment of 6.2 tonnes, which included 300,000 Hydroxychloroquine tablets and protective equipment.

I believe that India's proactive approach in assisting Bolivia demonstrates its unwavering commitment to global health and cooperation. Such initiatives reflect not only India's moral responsibilities but also its strategic interests in strengthening ties with countries in the Global South.
