New Delhi, Nov 26 (NationPress) The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Wednesday that India remains committed to supporting all initiatives aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
During a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that New Delhi has consistently advocated for genuine and practical dialogue between both parties to achieve a resolution. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assertion that this is not an era of war.
When questioned about the recent peace proposal developed by the United States with contributions from both Russia and Ukraine, Jaiswal replied, "We have noted reports concerning the peace plan. This situation is still developing, as you may have seen. Ongoing meetings are taking place, and we are closely observing the progress. Our Prime Minister has previously and repeatedly stated that this is not an era of war and has urged for the prompt cessation of hostilities."
"India has also pushed for genuine and practical engagement among the involved parties and other significant stakeholders through dialogue and diplomacy to discover a lasting resolution to the conflict. We continue to endorse all initiatives intended to secure enduring peace in the area. Discussions on peace efforts were also held during the External Affairs Minister's recent visit to Moscow and his conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart," he added.
On Sunday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar had a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart, Minister Andrii Sybiha, where they discussed the latest updates regarding Ukraine's ongoing conflict.
In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar remarked, "Had a telecon with FM Andrii Sybiha of Ukraine last evening. I appreciate his briefing on the latest developments concerning the Ukraine conflict. I reiterated India's support for a swift conclusion to this conflict and the establishment of lasting peace."
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced that his peace plan has been “fine-tuned” with contributions from both Russia and Ukraine, and he is dispatching envoys to the leaders of both nations to finalize an agreement.
Trump mentioned that there are only a few remaining points of disagreement regarding the 28-point plan that has been drafted by the US after adjustments. "To finalize this Peace Plan, I have instructed my Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to meet with President [Vladimir] Putin in Moscow and, concurrently, Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will be engaging with the Ukrainians," he wrote.
He expressed his eagerness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but only when the deal to conclude this War is FINAL or nearing its final stages.
Trump had set a Thanksgiving Day deadline – Thursday, when the feast is celebrated in the US – for Ukraine to agree to the deal but has since indicated his willingness to extend this timeline if progress is made.
The conflict, which Trump claims resulted in the death of 25,000 soldiers last month, continues to escalate, with Russia launching missile and drone attacks on Kyiv on Tuesday.
