How is the Indian delegation addressing terrorism issues in Spain?

Madrid, June 2 (NationPress) An all-party Parliamentary delegation, headed by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, engaged with the Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT) on Monday. This Spanish organization, founded in 1981, provides essential support to those impacted by terrorist violence. The delegation shared insights from India's efforts to counter cross-border terrorism and united in a commitment to foster a safer, more compassionate world.

The AVT, comprising over 4,800 members, extends assistance to individuals directly affected by terrorism, including those who have not received compensation.

The visiting team also included Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai, BJP MP Captain Brijesh Chowta (Retd.), RJD MP Prem Chand Gupta, AAP MP Ashok Kumar Mittal, and Former Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri.

In a poignant discussion, the delegation reflected on the anguish, strength, and resilience shaped by terrorism. “We also discussed India’s determined approach to addressing cross-border threats, reaffirming our joint commitment to creating a more secure and humane world,” Ashok Mittal shared on X.

Previously, on Sunday, the delegation had an enriching dialogue with the Indian diaspora, reiterating India's steadfast dedication to peace amidst terrorism. They stressed India's leadership role in the global fight against terrorism, upholding values of peace and resilience.

The Indian community in Spain was encouraged to take pride in their heritage, stand united, and actively support India's initiatives for justice and peace. The diaspora responded with enthusiasm, showcasing their solidarity with India and a strong sense of identity.

During this interaction, members of the Indian diaspora noted that their Spanish friends expressed shock and concern over the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, indicating a growing international awareness of India's challenges in combating terrorism. They voiced robust support for India’s counter-terrorism initiatives, as conveyed in a statement from the Indian Embassy in Madrid.

The delegates also met with Arturo Fernandez Alvarez, a Spanish businessman who survived the horrific terror attacks in Mumbai on November 26, 2008. He joined the delegation in denouncing the scourge of terrorism.

On the last day of their visit, the delegation is set to meet with Spanish government officials, parliamentarians, and civil society representatives. These discussions will serve as a platform to inform Spanish leaders about Operation Sindoor and to assert India’s position as the world’s fourth-largest economy, dedicated to peace, stability, and a strong stance against terrorism.

This visit is part of India’s global outreach to emphasize the significance of Operation Sindoor and its ongoing fight against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism, following productive engagements in Latvia, Greece, Slovenia, and Russia, reaffirming India’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism.
