Tehran, March 3 (NationPress) Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei referred to the recent statements made by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan as "unconstructive" on Monday, highlighting the importance of Tehran-Ankara relations.
During a press briefing in Tehran, Baghaei addressed Fidan's remarks from an interview with Al Jazeera Arabic on Wednesday, where the Turkish minister criticized Iran's regional policies, especially its reliance on militias in both Syria and Iraq.
Fidan claimed that even though Iran had achieved certain successes, its tactics imposed a long-term burden on the region as well as on Iran's own establishment, urging Tehran to reassess its strategy.
In response, Baghaei stated that Fidan's comments were "frequently repeated" and "unconstructive." He also pointed out Israel's increasing assertiveness in the region, particularly in Syria, and encouraged Turkish officials to consider the consequences and effects of their policies.
Regarding bilateral relations, Baghaei emphasized that ties with Ankara are of "very great importance" to Tehran, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
He acknowledged that despite the two nations having disagreements on several regional matters, they have managed to maintain "good ties" through "wise approaches and rational behaviors."
In a post on the social media platform X on Friday, Baghaei urged Fidan to avoid making the "mistake of failing to see the covert and overt hands of the United States and Israel behind the scenes of the regional developments."
He also reminded the Turkish Foreign Minister of Israel's extensive assaults on Syria's military facilities and infrastructure following the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government, alongside its frequent violations of the Arab state's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
