Tehran, Feb 11 (NationPress) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has engaged in discussions with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan regarding the US President's proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza.
During two distinct phone calls, Araghchi addressed the evolving situation in the West Asia region with both the UN Chief and the Malaysian Foreign Minister, as stated by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Monday.
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump indicated that the US would assume control of Gaza and undertake redevelopment after the relocation of Palestinians, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
These comments were made during a joint press conference at the White House alongside visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In his conversation with Guterres, Araghchi denounced the US-Israeli initiative to 'forcibly relocate' Palestinians from Gaza, urging the UN and the Security Council to take a 'decisive and explicit' stance against this 'dangerous conspiracy, which jeopardizes international peace and security.'
He highlighted that the proposal to forcibly displace Palestinians contravenes all principles and regulations of international law and the UN Charter, effectively serving to bolster Israel's agenda of 'genocide against Palestinians and the eradication of Palestine.'
Araghchi also criticized Netanyahu's suggestion to transfer Palestinians to Saudi Arabia, labeling those comments as a 'clear illustration of Israel's crude methodology.'
The UN Chief reiterated the organization's opposition to any plan that would result in the relocation of Palestinians from their homeland, emphasizing the necessity to honor the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Guterres added that the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza is 'completely unacceptable and rejected,' asserting that the immediate focus should be on expediting humanitarian aid delivery to those in Gaza and assisting in the reconstruction of the area.
In his conversation with the Malaysian Foreign Minister, Araghchi urged prominent Muslim nations to adopt a 'decisive and consistent' response to the US President's proposal.
He also sought Malaysia's backing for Iran's initiative to convene an emergency ministerial meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to deliberate on Trump's 'illegal' Gaza plan.
Hasan elaborated on Malaysia's stance against any plan aimed at transferring Palestinians out of Gaza, asserting that the forced relocation of Gazans constitutes 'ethnic cleansing and is thoroughly rejected.'
He expressed support for Iran's proposal for the OIC meeting, assuring that he would participate actively.
