Israeli Forces Capture Syrian Outpost atop Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights

Jerusalem, Dec 8 (NationPress) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have successfully captured a Syrian army outpost located at the top of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights on Sunday, according to reports from Israeli state media.

Units from Shaldag, the elite commando division of the Air Force, managed to take over the outpost "without facing any resistance," as stated by Kan TV News.

The commander of the IDF's Northern Command, Ori Gordin, along with the Training Command chief, David Zini, also visited the mountaintop, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Reports indicate that the Syrian army vacated the post amid the decline of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

Images shared on social media depicted Israeli soldiers taking selfies outside the captured Syrian outpost, alongside another image showcasing troops with an Israeli flag.

The IDF has not provided an official statement yet, according to a spokesperson for Xinhua. However, earlier on Sunday, the military disclosed that it was entering a buffer zone, a demilitarized region in the Golan Heights, asserting that this action was aimed at preventing rebel factions from seizing control of the area and launching attacks against Israel.

As night fell, the IDF confirmed via a post on the social media platform X that it was executing "actions" within the buffer zone. They advised residents of five communities in southern Syria—Ofaniya, Quneitra, Al-Hamidiya, Al-Samdaneyah Al-Gharbiya, and Qahtaniya—to stay indoors. "For your safety, you must remain at home and avoid going outside until further notice," the post advised.
