Kenya Sees Decline in Terrorism and Crime Incidents

Nairobi, Dec 20 (NationPress) Kenya has witnessed a significant reduction in overall terrorism and crime incidents throughout the country in recent times, largely due to the cooperation between local and international security organizations.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as the acting Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, stated that a total of 27 terrorist attacks were successfully prevented between January 2022 and November 2024 in Kenya.
"During this timeframe, numerous terrorists have been neutralized. The government has also achieved 11 successful convictions. Our achievements were made possible through collaboration with international agencies," Mudavadi informed reporters in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
"Importantly, our success also stemmed from partnerships with other global organizations to combat crime through training and equipment support," he added.
Mudavadi noted a decline in general crime rates, including robbery, break-ins, stock theft, vehicle thefts, dangerous drugs, traffic offences, and corruption cases, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
However, he mentioned that incidents of vandalism targeting electric power transmission infrastructure have been escalating, leading to power outages that disrupt services and cause economic losses.
Mudavadi reported that cases of cattle rustling have decreased by 62 percent in northern and eastern Kenya.
"Over the past six years, a total of 383 officers have lost their lives in the line of duty, and this year alone, 830 officers have sustained injuries while on duty," he stated.
According to Mudavadi, Kenya has recorded 7,107 cases of sexual and gender-based violence from September 2023 to the present.
In September, Kenyan police announced that they had heightened security measures nationwide in response to new threats from terrorists.
Resila Onyango, spokesperson for the National Police Service (NPS), reassured the public about their safety following credible warnings regarding potential attacks by al-Shabab militants in Nairobi and other urban areas in the East African nation.
Onyango stated that police forces deployed across the country remain vigilant to safeguard the nation, which has been facing heightened terror threats from al-Shabab.
This announcement came after the United States advised its citizens in Kenya to stay alert amid ongoing terror threats.
