Mongolia Sets 2025 as the Year for Infrastructure Advancement in Ulan Bator

Ulan Bator, Dec 25 (NationPress) The government of Mongolia has announced that 2025 will be recognized as the year to foster infrastructure development within the capital city of Ulan Bator.

According to Khishgee Nyambaatar, the mayor of the city, during a press briefing after a routine government meeting, "The government has decided to proclaim 2025 as the year to enhance infrastructure growth in Ulan Bator."

This initiative includes a directive for cabinet members to deliver extensive support and coordination for projects designed to tackle the city's most pressing issues and expedite its development, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Currently, Ulan Bator is facing numerous critical challenges, such as severe air pollution, traffic congestion, energy shortages, and inefficiencies in urban planning.

In response to these pressing matters, the government of Mongolia has recently declared a heightened state of preparedness in the capital.

Originally built for 500,000 inhabitants, Ulan Bator now accommodates nearly half of Mongolia's total population of 3.5 million.

A significant portion of the city's population resides in the ger districts, where residents lack basic amenities like running water, central heating, and sewage systems.

The deteriorating air quality, primarily due to the use of processed fuels for heating, has become an increasing concern, especially during the harsh winter months.

PM2.5 levels in both the ger districts and central areas of the city frequently surpass the recommended safety limits set by the World Health Organization during winter.

In addition to air pollution, traffic congestion remains one of the most considerable challenges faced by Ulan Bator.

The city currently has 720,000 registered vehicles, which intensifies its urban challenges.
