Jerusalem, Jan 29 (NationPress) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit Washington next week upon the invitation of US President Donald Trump, as per a statement from Netanyahu's office.

Trump has extended an invitation to Netanyahu for a meeting at the White House on February 4, as mentioned in the statement.

This meeting aims to deliberate on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, according to a report by Israel's state-owned Kan TV News.

The initial phase of the deal initiated a six-week ceasefire starting on January 19. On the 16th day of this ceasefire, negotiations will begin on subsequent phases focused on the release of remaining Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip and the further withdrawal of Israeli troops from the region.

Netanyahu has faced political pressure from influential members of his far-right coalition to renew military actions in Gaza following the first phase of the agreement, reported Xinhua news agency.

As per Kan, the White House has formulated an incentive package designed to motivate Netanyahu to advance with the deal.

This package reportedly includes sanctions aimed at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu in late November for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes during the Gaza conflict.

Previously, the Israeli government announced that Hamas would release six hostages this week, while Israel would permit Palestinians in Gaza to return to their homes in the northern sectors.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel indicated, “Following vigorous and determined negotiations led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hamas has reversed its stance and will implement an additional phase of hostages’ release this Thursday.”
