New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Christopher Luxon, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, paid a visit to the Akshardham Temple in New Delhi on Tuesday, marking the third day of his official tour to India from March 16-20.
"The Hindu community in New Zealand has significantly contributed to our nation. Today in Delhi, I honored a site that holds great significance for many Kiwi-Hindus – the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple," Luxon shared on X after the visit.
On Monday evening, the New Zealand leader, alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visited Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in the capital after their discussions at the Hyderabad House.
"Together, Prime Minister Modi and I explored Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, a location steeped in faith and history. The Sikh community's steadfast dedication to service and humanity is commendable worldwide," remarked the visiting leader.
Before concluding his Delhi itinerary and heading to Mumbai on Tuesday evening, the New Zealand PM also took a moment to visit India Gate.
Upon welcoming Luxon and his delegation to India on Monday, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the long-standing relationship between New Zealand and India.
"Recently, we saw him celebrating the vibrant festival of Holi in Auckland! Prime Minister Luxon's affection for the Indian-origin community in New Zealand is evident as a significant delegation has accompanied him to India," noted PM Modi.
Both leaders engaged in extensive discussions regarding various aspects of bilateral relations and agreed on enhancing defense and security cooperation.
"The Prime Ministers expressed satisfaction over the strong bonds between our nations, noting that Indian-origin individuals constitute nearly six percent of New Zealand's population. They recognized the considerable contributions of the Indian diaspora in New Zealand and their vital role in fostering connections between our countries. Both leaders agreed on the importance of ensuring the safety and security of the Indian community, including students in New Zealand, as well as New Zealanders and visitors in India," stated the India-New Zealand Joint Statement following their discussions on Monday.
A prominent delegation, which includes several ministers, senior officials, business representatives, media personnel, and members of the Indian diaspora residing in New Zealand, is accompanying Luxon on this visit, marking his first since assuming office.
In Mumbai, the visiting leader plans to engage with the Maharashtra Governor and Chief Minister while also meeting Indian business leaders and various community representatives.
He is expected to return to Wellington on March 20.
