New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) The Quad coalition, comprising Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, has jointly pledged more than $20 million in humanitarian aid to assist with the recovery efforts in earthquake-stricken Myanmar.
Through its funding and cooperative initiatives, the Quad is facilitating the delivery of essential relief supplies, deploying emergency medical teams, and supporting humanitarian organizations working within Myanmar to offer assistance to those impacted by the earthquake.
In a unified statement released regarding the response to the Myanmar earthquake, the governments of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States expressed their heartfelt condolences to the people of Myanmar and Thailand following the devastating earthquake, which resulted in considerable loss of life, injuries, and extensive destruction of infrastructure.
The coalition also welcomed recent pledges for temporary, partial ceasefires and urged all involved parties to enact, extend, and broaden these measures to create a safe environment for the prompt delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid throughout Myanmar.
"We acknowledge the statements from ASEAN Foreign Ministers on March 29 and 30, in addition to the support offered by ASEAN and neighboring countries to the affected communities," the statement noted.
By means of humanitarian assistance and bilateral initiatives, the group is delivering crucial relief supplies, deploying emergency medical teams, and assisting humanitarian partners in Myanmar to care for those impacted by the earthquake, according to the statement.
To ensure a rapid response and effective distribution of aid to meet the needs of the affected communities, Quad member states announced that their Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Partnership has formed a coordination group working closely with other partners, including the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management.
The Quad members reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating in response to natural disasters and broader challenges to regional stability and security as part of their "shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific."
Since the catastrophic 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, the Quad has been providing practical and effective humanitarian assistance and disaster relief across the Indo-Pacific.
Over 3,000 lives were lost in the earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28.
