Dublin, July 23 (NationPress) The Indian Embassy in Ireland announced on Wednesday that it is currently in communication with Irish authorities following a violent attack on an Indian national in Tallaght, a suburb located in the southwestern area of Dublin, over the weekend.
The Embassy stated, "In connection with the recent violent incident involving an Indian national in Tallaght, Dublin, we are in contact with both the victim and his family, providing all necessary assistance. We are also liaising with relevant Irish authorities regarding this matter," as communicated via a post on X.
An Garda Siochana, the national police service of Ireland, has initiated an investigation after a man in his 40s was brutally assaulted and partially stripped by a group of assailants in Tallaght on Saturday around 6 PM local time. The assaulted individual, originally from India, sustained injuries after being attacked and severely beaten by a group of young men until bystanders intervened. Reports indicate that the attackers also removed his trousers, according to The Irish Times.
Irish media outlets are treating the incident as a potential hate crime. The attackers had falsely accused the victim of inappropriate behavior around children, claims that were subsequently disseminated online by prominent far-right and anti-immigrant figures.
Authorities reported that the victim was admitted to Tallaght University Hospital with injuries, but was discharged early Sunday morning. Investigators suspect that some of the assailants may have been involved in other unprovoked attacks targeting foreign nationals in the Tallaght area recently.
Paul Murphy, a People Before Profit TD representing the area, condemned the attack, describing it as "horrifying to witness such a brutal act in our community." He added, "The responsibility for this violence lies not only with the perpetrators but also with those spreading racist misinformation. The community is in shock and outrage and will unite against violence, hatred, and division."
