New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of Russia's State Duma, met with Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar at the Parliament on Monday, emphasizing that India serves as a vital partner for Russia in Asia.

Volodin, who arrived in India late last night for an official visit aimed at enhancing bilateral ties, also toured both houses of the Indian Parliament.

"We share special relations that are evolving based on friendship, non-interference in sovereign affairs, and mutually beneficial collaboration," Volodin remarked during his meeting with the Vice President.

He highlighted the significant contributions made by state leaders to the advancement of Russian-Indian dialogue.

"It is essential for us to legislatively support the decisions made by President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Our relationship is strengthening, and we must ensure that the momentum at the executive level is mirrored in our legislative efforts. Cultivating communication within the parliamentary framework is crucial to fostering our ties through our work," Volodin emphasized.

He reiterated that India is a key ally of Russia in Asia.

"In the past five years, our bilateral trade has surged fivefold and continues to rise—showing a 15 percent increase from January to November 2024. This growth benefits our citizens and nations," said the Chairman of the State Duma.

The Vice President's office noted that discussions touched on various aspects of the multi-faceted bilateral relationship between India and Russia.

"Both leaders stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations, which form a solid base for the overall Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between our countries," VP Dhankhar shared in a post on X.

He acknowledged the high caliber of India-Russia relations and the pivotal role of parliamentarians in sustaining these ties.

The Vice President recalled that Prime Minister Modi has visited Russia twice in the past seven months, reflecting the strategic partnership's significance.

"Our relations are evolving into new dimensions; the level of cooperation is increasing. Both nations align their positions on platforms such as the UN, BRICS, G20, and SCO to tackle global challenges," quoted the Russian Embassy in India during the meeting.

Volodin extended congratulations to the people of India on Republic Day and invited Rajya Sabha members to visit Russia.

The Russian delegation accompanying the Duma Chairman includes Deputy Speaker Alexander Babakov, LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky, New People faction leader Alexey Nechayev, Economic Policy Committee Chairman Maxim Topilin, Agrarian Committee Chairman Vladimir Kashin, and Culture Committee Chairwoman Olga Kazakova.
