South Korean Foreign Minister Engages with Senior US Official in Second Discussion Following Martial Law

Seoul, Dec 8 (NationPress) South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul convened with US Ambassador Philip Goldberg late Sunday to deliberate on strategies to enhance and uphold the bilateral alliance following the recent martial law controversy, according to a statement from Cho's office.
Minister Cho underscored the government's unwavering determination to navigate the current challenging circumstances, grounded in South Korea's democratic resilience and the rule of law, as reported by the foreign ministry.
The two officials concurred on the necessity to collaborate in fortifying and preserving the South Korea-U.S. alliance steadfastly, as noted by the ministry, with coverage from Yonhap news agency.
Goldberg also disclosed on a post via X that the meeting had transpired.
"I met with @FMChoTaeyul to discuss the prevailing situation in the Republic of Korea. We both affirmed that the Alliance is ironclad," he mentioned, referring to South Korea by its official title.
The meeting held on Sunday between Cho and the senior U.S. envoy represented their second discussion since the martial law upheaval. They previously convened on Thursday, the day following the martial law's repeal.
