South Korean Minister of Industry Set to Visit the U.S. to Strengthen Economic Ties

Seoul, Jan 5 (NationPress) Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun is scheduled to embark on a trip to the United States this week to engage in discussions about bilateral economic exchanges with both business and government officials in anticipation of the commencement of the second Donald Trump administration, according to his office on Sunday.

Ahn intends to depart for the state of Georgia on Monday, where he will meet with Governor Brian Kemp to garner support for South Korean enterprises operating within the region, as reported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, via Yonhap news agency.

The minister will also tour the production facilities of SK On Co., the battery division of SK Group, and will convene with South Korean companies based in Georgia to explore solutions to business challenges and enhance bilateral collaboration in advanced industries.

Ahn's upcoming visit to the U.S. is taking place amid increasing uncertainties in global trade, particularly with the anticipated inauguration of the second Donald Trump administration, which has indicated a shift towards protectionist trade policies, including the potential introduction of tariffs of at least 10 percent on all goods.

"The forthcoming trip to the U.S. will prioritize establishing a stable business environment for South Korean corporations in the United States and will seek to improve collaboration with the new U.S. government in sectors such as industry, trade, and energy," Ahn stated.

Following a two-day stay in Georgia, Ahn will proceed to Washington to engage with U.S. lawmakers and solicit their support for the secure investment and operational stability of South Korean businesses in the world's largest economy.

Additionally, Ahn will interact with representatives from U.S. business organizations and think tanks to share insights on promoting bilateral cooperation.
