Kyiv, Nov 23 (NationPress) Delegations representing Ukraine and the United States are set to engage in discussions in Switzerland shortly regarding the potential framework of a future peace agreement with Russia, according to Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council.
Umerov emphasized that this marks a new phase of the ongoing dialogue, aiming to align perspectives on the forthcoming steps, as he mentioned in a Facebook post.
He highlighted that Ukraine approaches the peace negotiations with a clear understanding of its national interests, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Earlier today, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine signed a decree to form a delegation for negotiations with the United States, its allies, and Russia to discuss a peace settlement aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. The delegation will be spearheaded by Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office.
On the same day, Zelensky remarked that Ukraine is facing one of its most challenging periods in history while deliberating over the US-suggested 28-point peace plan.
“We are presently navigating one of the most challenging moments in our history. The pressure on Ukraine is unprecedented. We are now confronted with a critical decision: to either sacrifice our dignity or risk losing a vital ally. It’s a choice between tackling the complex 28 points or enduring an extremely harsh winter,” Zelensky stated in his address to the nation.
Looking ahead, Zelensky indicated that the coming week will be particularly demanding and filled with significant events, mentioning his intent to propose alternatives that would amend the US plan, ensuring that Ukraine's interests are factored into the agreement, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Zelensky assured that he would present strong arguments, persuade, and suggest alternatives but would not provide adversaries with any grounds to assert that Ukraine is unwilling to pursue peace.
On Thursday, Zelensky revealed that the US had provided him with a plan aimed at concluding the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
