Washington, Jan 16 (NationPress) The US has officially excluded the Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Center, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, and Indian Rare Earths from its export control list, which previously restricted certain goods from US companies.
The US Bureau of Industry and Security announced on Wednesday that this decision aims to foster US foreign policy objectives by eliminating obstacles to advanced energy collaboration, facilitating joint research and development, and enhancing science and technology partnerships to meet shared energy security aspirations.
It was noted that the United States and India are both committed to promoting peaceful nuclear cooperation and related research and development initiatives, with significant advancements in science and technology cooperation over recent years benefitting both nations and their global partners.
Matthew Borman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration, stated, “The removal of these three Indian entities will pave the way for closer collaboration between the US and India to secure more resilient critical minerals and clean energy supply chains.” He further emphasized that this action aligns with the overarching ambitions and strategic goals of the US-India partnership.
These organizations were initially placed on the Entity List following the nuclear tests conducted in May 1998. During President Barack Obama’s administration in 2015, nine entities were removed from this list, including Bharat Dynamics Ltd. and several subsidiaries of both the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
During President Obama’s first visit to India, some Indian organizations were also taken off the list in 2010.
On the same day, the BIS revealed the addition of 11 Chinese organizations to the Entity List, with ten added due to their role in advancing the PRC's military modernization through the development of advanced artificial intelligence technologies. One organization was included for its contributions to lithography technology for advanced-node fabrication facilities in China, enabling domestic production of advanced integrated circuits for military applications.
