Bengaluru, Feb 13 (NationPress) A minimum of 13 individuals have been apprehended in the investigation regarding the attack on the Mysuru city police station, officials reported. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara reiterated on Thursday that severe actions would be taken against the rioters, and more arrests are anticipated.

In a press briefing in Bengaluru on Thursday, Parameshwara mentioned, “As I previously stated, severe actions will be taken. Over 10 individuals have already been arrested, and further suspects have been identified through CCTV footage. These individuals will also face arrest and legal repercussions.”

As per police sources, it has been confirmed that 13 people are now in custody, with expectations that the total will rise as the identities of the rioters are being uncovered.

The FIR associated with this case indicates a high likelihood of police officers being harmed during the rioting and stone-pelting that took place on February 9, as per the source.

The FIR further states that more than 1,000 individuals gathered unlawfully outside the police station. The mob not only damaged police property but also hurled stones at law enforcement personnel. PSI Sunil has lodged a complaint, urging action against the Muslim youths involved in the violence.

This incident has sparked significant backlash from the public and opposition parties regarding the apparent lack of fear of law among such mobs.

Taking the situation seriously, the special wing CCB police have commenced an investigation, successfully identifying more than 60 rioters.

The Karnataka BJP has called for unity among all parties to discuss measures for ensuring internal security. They emphasize that the police system, which provides protection, deserves moral support.

State BJP General Secretary P. Rajeev stated, “There seems to be a systematic conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the police force and fostering the perception of insecurity within it. If unrest is incited within the state, it sends a troubling message to society about the police's capability.”

“Political blame games, communal biases like Hindu-Muslim narratives, and politically charged interpretations allow anti-national activities to flourish. The treacherous forces that instigate internal riots will remain unchallenged under these conditions,” Rajeev asserted, calling for decisive action.

Karnataka Police have also initiated a search for an Islamic religious leader who allegedly delivered a hate speech inciting a mob to attack the police station in Mysuru city, triggered by a controversial social media post.

Reports indicate that the suspect, Mufti Mushtaq Maqbooli, was responsible for a social media comment regarding the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Authorities have obtained a video clip of Maqbooli making highly incendiary remarks, including calls for extreme violence.

Deputy CM Shivakumar visited the incident location in Mysuru on Wednesday, asserting that offenders will face justice.

Previously, Karnataka Police detained one individual linked to a controversial social media post containing communal remarks against a specific community in light of AAP's defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, which escalated tensions in Mysuru city.

The accused, a resident of Kalyannagar in Mysuru, had posted derogatory comments about prominent politicians like Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, former Chief Ministers Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal. This post, which included provocative communal statements against a specific religious community, went viral on social media on Monday evening.

By late Monday night, a group from the minority community assembled outside the Udayagiri police station demanding action against the accused. Despite police efforts to de-escalate the situation, including involving religious leaders, the crowd turned violent, resulting in stone-pelting directed at the police station and an attack on the DCP's official vehicle. As tensions rose, police resorted to lathi charges and eventually fired tear gas. Additional police forces were deployed, and senior officers along with local political figures urged the crowd to remain calm, assuring them that action would be taken against the accused.
