The declaration regarding the Kumbh Mela dates was made on Sunday, attended by esteemed seers, mahants, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
According to the schedule, the Simhastha Flag Hoisting ceremony is slated for October 31, 2026, at 12:02 p.m. (Location: Ramkund Panchavati); Pratham Amrit Snan will occur on Monday, August 2, 2027, coinciding with Ashadh Somvati Amavasya; the Mahakumbhasnan/Second Amrit Snan is set for August 31, 2027, aligning with Shravan Amavasya; and the Tritiya Amrit Snan will take place on September 11, 2027, during Bhadrapada Shuddha Ekadashi. The Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela will also be celebrated on these dates.
In addition, every day of 'Ekadashi', 'Pournima', 'Amavasya', and 'Vaidhriti Vyatipat Yoga' during the Simhastha Parva in Nashik will serve as pilgrimage and 'darshan parvas' for devotees. Beyond the three main 'parvas' for Kumbh Mela 2027 in Nashik, there will be 44 'muhurtas' for 'Parvasnana' and 53 'muhurtas' for 'parvasnanap' at Trimbakeshwar, as stated in the government announcement.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured, “The state government will exert all efforts to ensure that the Kumbh Mela unfolds in a safe, clean, and sacred environment. Facilities will be extended to all devotees attending the Kumbh Mela, with funds allocated for this purpose. As the Kumbh Mela symbolizes Indian Sanatan culture, it attracts global attention. With collective cooperation, we aim to orchestrate a grand, divine, and unforgettable event that will astonish the world.”
“The Kumbh Mela is organized by the akhads, sadhus, and mahants, and the state will ensure excellent facilities. The sadhus and mahants possess significant experience in Kumbh Mela organization, and their guidance will prove invaluable. In 2015, the preparation period for the Nashik Kumbh Mela was limited. This time, the government is making thorough preparations, given the extended timeline,” the chief minister added.
“The Kumbh Mela aims to ensure the purity and continuous flow of the Godavari River; this is our government's commitment. Initiatives are underway to uphold the sanctity of the Godavari. A sewage management project will guarantee that the water entering the Godavari remains clean, and tenders are currently being issued. Measures will be put in place to prevent polluted water from entering the riverbed. Maintaining the river's flow is crucial for its purity; necessary planning is already in progress,” stated the chief minister.
CM Fadnavis mentioned that the government will devise plans based on the input of sadhus and mahants, ensuring the akhadas receive essential facilities. Land will be procured for the permanent use of the Sadhugram site. Additionally, the road network is being developed to prevent congestion at Kushawart.
Nashik Divisional Commissioner Pravin Gedam indicated that the influx of devotees for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela is expected to be higher this time, presenting a significant challenge in crowd management. In conjunction with the three Amrit Snans, other Parv Snans will also be conducted. The preparations for the Kumbh Mela are progressing swiftly, with tenders exceeding Rs 4,000 crore already published, and tenders for Rs 2,600 crore to be issued shortly. All tasks are projected to be completed by January 2027.
