New Delhi, Oct 21 (NationPress) Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Tuesday that approximately 67 million citizens frequent fuel stations each day, highlighting the nation's escalating energy requirements aligned with its swift economic advancement.
During his remarks, Puri noted India's remarkable progress, identifying it as the fourth-largest economy globally, with a GDP of $4.3 trillion and an impressive 7.8 percent growth rate in the initial quarter of FY25-26.
“India's daily oil consumption is around 5.5 million barrels, illustrating the vastness of its burgeoning energy demands,” Puri conveyed via the social media platform X.
The minister pointed out that India’s gas pipeline network, currently covering 24,500 km, is set for an expansion to 33,000 km by 2030, aiming to enhance energy accessibility.
He mentioned that over 10.60 crore households have received LPG connections under the Ujjwala Yojana, and 1.55 crore homes are linked through piped natural gas (PNG).
“The nation boasts around 8,300 CNG stations serving millions of vehicles daily,” the Union Minister highlighted.
Stressing India's commitment to clean and sustainable energy, Puri noted that 114 compressed biogas (CBG) plants are operational, with projects in green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) rapidly progressing.
Puri emphasized that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's energy sector is propelling the nation's relentless journey towards becoming a developed country by 2047 — #ViksitBharat.
In related developments, Puri mentioned last week that the government has opened up 99 percent of India’s offshore area for oil and gas exploration and expanded the crude import basket to over 40 countries from 27 previously.
“India’s energy journey is supported by four strong pillars: diversification of crude imports, innovation, increased domestic oil and gas exploration, and a clean transition as seen in the Green Hydrogen Mission and the 10.60 crore Ujjwala families benefiting from the PM’s subsidized LPG scheme,” the Union Minister concluded.
