New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) Introducing the term “Alcohol Affected Party” for the ruling party, the Delhi Congress revealed an expose on Thursday, featuring a purported audio clip of a current MLA that highlights the alleged liquor scam in the national capital, which was under the now-repealed excise policy.
Congress National Spokesperson Pawan Khera released an audio recording of a sitting AAP MLA, where he supposedly voices his opposition to the contentious excise policy during a conversation with the then Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
In this purported discussion, AAP’s Narela MLA Sharad Chauhan is heard expressing his objections to the excise policy, to which Sisodia responds that it was essential for generating party funds to contest elections in Gujarat, Goa, and Punjab.
“Currently, the funds for the Delhi elections are sourced from Punjab,” Chauhan states in the audio.
Khera criticized Sisodia, asserting that the voters of Delhi are not interested in a “manager” of a liquor scam when it comes to their children's education.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav mentioned that the party was the first to uncover the liquor scam and file an FIR, leading to the arrest and subsequent bail of AAP leaders under stringent conditions.
He stated that the Rs 2,000 crore liquor scam served as a means for the AAP leadership to provide lucrative opportunities to their close associates.
“The liquor scam has adversely affected women, as it has led to increased addiction among youth and men,” Yadav remarked, adding that the AAP government had even promoted a scheme offering two free bottles of liquor with the purchase of one.
He criticized the actions of AAP leaders, highlighting the contradiction between their promises of transparent governance and their actual conduct.
Yadav noted that the AAP's liquor sales promotion policy is now adversely impacting Punjab, where alcoholism has surged since the party assumed power.
“An AAP government in Punjab has further entrenched the liquor lobby's influence in Delhi,” he asserted.
The DPCC also launched a campaign song titled “Zarorat Hogi poori, Dilli mein Congress hai Zarori”, with numerous party leaders participating enthusiastically.
