Ghaziabad, March 17 (NationPress) The political turmoil surrounding Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and his tomb is intensifying in Maharashtra, particularly following Congress leader Harshvardhan Sapkal’s recent remarks that likened Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to the infamous ruler, igniting further controversy.
This statement has triggered considerable debate, coming on the heels of earlier comments made by Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi, maintaining the heightened political climate in the state.
Acharya Pramod Krishnam, a former Congress leader and spiritual figure, has vehemently criticized Sapkal’s comparison.
In an interview with IANS, Acharya Pramod Krishnam stated, "Devendra Fadnavis is a patriotic, cultured, and esteemed leader. He has shown remarkable understanding and has been divinely favored to serve as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a second term. To compare such a distinguished leader to Aurangzeb is absolutely condemnable. This issue transcends political rivalry; it represents a profound disrespect for the leader and his esteemed position. I believe the Congress party, especially its followers of Rahul Gandhi, has harmed its own reputation with such comments. The individual responsible for these remarks must apologize without delay."
The controversy surrounding Fadnavis and Sapkal’s statements unfolds amid ongoing protests and discussions regarding Aurangzeb’s tomb, a contentious topic that has sparked fiery political debates.
As Maharashtra grapples with these disputes, public reactions have intensified, with strong opinions emerging from both sides of the political spectrum.
Additionally, Acharya Pramod Krishnam commented on the protests linked to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
He emphasized that the land of India is the heritage of all its citizens, regardless of their religious background. "This is the land of Hindustan, and no group should claim it as their exclusive domain. The notion of land ownership defined by religion is not only illegal but divisive," Krishnam asserted.
He also conveyed his concern that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has garnered international respect, a segment of the Indian populace remains skeptical of their own government.
"It’s unfortunate that the Indian people are divided in their trust for their government," he lamented.
In response to PM Modi’s recent dialogue with American podcaster Lex Friedman, Acharya Krishnam commended the Prime Minister’s receptiveness to criticism, asserting, "PM Modi has consistently welcomed dissent and critique. He draws inspiration from the principles of Sardar Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, and Swami Vivekananda. In his podcast, he aptly addressed the current state of the Opposition in India, which has lost its intellectual depth. The Opposition no longer provides constructive feedback but is instead driven by animosity."
Further addressing the controversy surrounding the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave, Krishnam recognized that history has documented Aurangzeb’s brutality and persecution of Hindus.
However, he also conveyed that Sanatan Dharma, which advocates respect for all, even adversaries posthumously, does not endorse actions like grave desecration.
"Sanatan Dharma teaches us to show respect, even to those we consider foes. While acts such as grave vandalism and idol destruction are common in countries like Pakistan or Bangladesh, Sanatan Dharma does not approve of such practices in India," he concluded.
