Jammu, July 25 (NationPress) A tragic incident occurred when an Agniveer lost his life, and two other soldiers sustained injuries due to a landmine explosion near the line of control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, according to officials.

The injured personnel included a junior commissioned officer (JCO).

"The explosion took place close to the Victor Post in Salotri village of Poonch’s Haveli tehsil during regular patrolling by the army as part of an anti-infiltration operation. The Agniveer died instantly, while the two injured soldiers were promptly transported to a hospital for urgent medical care. Medical staff have reported that both injured soldiers are in stable condition," an official stated.

"The Army has honored the fallen Agniveer, and an investigation is underway to determine the precise circumstances that caused the explosion," the official added.

Following the April 22 attack by the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local, the Indian armed forces executed targeted strikes on terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan, demolishing nine terror infrastructures in locations such as Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In response to the escalation, where Pakistan targeted civilian and military sites in India, the Indian armed forces damaged 18 defense bases in Pakistan.

Heightened vigilance is being maintained along the 740-km-long LoC and 240-km-long international border in J&K.

Security forces and the J&K Police are actively conducting aggressive anti-terror operations in the region against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem in the Union Territory.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has been leading regular security review meetings to assess the objectives achieved and strategize new approaches to thwart the malicious intentions of terrorists with support from Pakistan.
