Will Anbumani Prove His Might in TN's Villupuram Amidst PMK Conflict with Father Ramadoss?

Chennai, July 20 (NationPress) In a significant intensification of the rivalry within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), party leader Anbumani Ramadoss is set to spearhead a substantial protest in Tamil Nadu's Villupuram district this Sunday, perceived as a direct challenge to his father and party founder, Dr. S. Ramadoss, in his political stronghold.

The demonstration, planned near the Villupuram district collectorate, is intended to criticize the Tamil Nadu government for its inaction on the Vanniyar reservation and to advocate for the implementation of the Vanniyar Reservation Act.

According to PMK spokesperson and Anbumani supporter K. Balu, the protest will be led by Anbumani himself, who will address the gathering of party members. The selection of Villupuram, especially its closeness to Thailapuram—the birthplace of Dr. S. Ramadoss—adds a politically charged atmosphere to the event.

Senior party figures recognize that this protest also serves as a demonstration of strength by Anbumani in a district that has traditionally shown loyalty to his father. Despite the venue's proximity to Thailapuram, Dr. Ramadoss is expected to skip the event, further indicating the growing divide between the two.

The internal discord within PMK has become increasingly visible over the past year, as Anbumani strives to assert his authority over the party while Ramadoss retains the loyalty of significant district leaders and grassroots supporters, particularly in Villupuram and adjacent areas.

The rift became apparent when Ramadoss objected to various appointments and strategic choices made by Anbumani, leading to a silent conflict within the party hierarchy.

“Dr. Ramadoss is effectively managing a parallel organization in Villupuram,” remarked a member of Anbumani’s close circle, highlighting the escalating factionalism.

The aide noted that Anbumani’s recent events across Tamil Nadu have attracted large crowds, and Sunday’s protest is anticipated to garner similar enthusiasm.

While Mailam MLA C. Sivakumar has endorsed Anbumani, many senior officials and long-time workers in the district continue to align themselves with Ramadoss.

“If today’s protest sees substantial turnout, it will signify a pivotal moment in Anbumani’s attempts to consolidate authority,” a district leader stated.
