Amaravati, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, has instructed officials to draft proposals for projects totaling Rs 40,000 crore as part of the Central government's Purvodaya scheme.
He emphasized that Rs 20,000 crore should be allocated specifically for irrigation initiatives, while the remaining Rs 20,000 crore is to be dedicated to infrastructure development.
The review meeting, held at the Secretariat, focused on the effective use of funds associated with the Purvodaya scheme.
The Chief Minister urged officials to devise proposals aimed at the comprehensive development of all three regions within the state utilizing the designated funds.
Priority areas identified include irrigation projects, horticultural crop initiatives, and infrastructure improvements, particularly rural roads.
Additionally, he directed the development of 82 clusters in the Prakasam and Rayalaseema districts to serve as hubs for horticulture and to facilitate the cultivation of horticultural crops across 20 lakh acres.
The Purvodaya scheme aims for holistic growth in the eastern region, which includes Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu proposed that Rs 5,000 crore be allocated for enhancing rural road networks and ensuring connectivity with both national and state highways. Moreover, he urged the completion of 23 major and medium irrigation projects in Prakasam and Rayalaseema to guarantee a reliable water supply for horticultural farming.
Upon learning about the proposed Polavaram-Nallamala Sagar project, estimated at Rs 58,700 crore, which could provide irrigation for an additional 7 lakh acres in the Nellore and Prakasam districts, as well as stabilize irrigation for another 6 lakh acres and supply drinking water to 60 lakh people, the Chief Minister urged for swift action on these projects.
He also instructed officials to devise plans to divert 200 TMC of floodwaters from the Godavari River via the Polavaram project to Bollapalli and Nallamala Sagar, and to assess the feasibility of supplying 50 TMC of Krishna floodwaters from Nagarjuna Sagar to Bollapalli.
Naidu pointed out that the Uttarandhra region holds great potential for oil palm and other horticultural crops, and he emphasized the importance of promoting both natural and organic farming within the agency districts of Uttarandhra.
He also guided officials on the execution of a Rs 169 crore project aimed at interlinking the Vamsadhara-Nagavali and Champavathi rivers. Connecting the Hiramandalam reservoir with the Narayanapuram anicut could potentially provide water to an additional 5,000 acres.
Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu, and various officials participated in this crucial meeting.
