Itanagar, Nov 26 (NationPress) The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.), officially opened the 69th National School Games at the Khelo India indoor stadium on Wednesday.

A representative from Raj Bhavan reported that a total of 1291 athletes, including 843 female participants from 26 states, 6 Union Territories, and 8 Central organizations, are competing across two sports: Taekwondo and Weightlifting. Specifically, 890 competitors will take part in Taekwondo, while 401 athletes will vie in Weightlifting, all overseen by a team of 140 technical officials.

Approximately 200 parents of the competitors are also present at the games. During the opening ceremony, the Governor remarked that these games symbolize youth, talent, and the essence that shapes the future of our nation.

Wishing the best to all participants, he reminded them that the competition is not only about winning but also about learning, forming connections, and evolving together.

The Governor encouraged young sports enthusiasts to face challenges with enthusiasm, to play with heart, to respect their rivals, and to embody the true spirit of sportsmanship throughout their journey. Lt. General Parnaik (Retd.) expressed eagerness to witness their skills, commitment, and camaraderie in action.

He hopes that this event will cultivate a robust group of young athletes who will someday represent India in Taekwondo and Weightlifting on the international stage.

The Governor urged the athletes to dream big, set ambitious goals, and aspire to be champions both in sports and in life.

Highlighting India's growing aspirations in the sporting arena, he called for a scientific methodology in talent development, including the advancement of sports medicine to align students' innate talents with appropriate sports.

He urged educational institutions and sports departments across the nation to invest in playgrounds, coaching staff, and adequate facilities, ensuring every child feels motivated to participate, develop, and realize their potential.

The Governor expressed pride in Arunachal Pradesh, which, despite being one of the newest states and a recent member of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), has achieved a remarkable milestone by hosting the 69th National School Games in Itanagar.

With boxing already completed and Taekwondo and Weightlifting in progress, this is the first time in 71 years that the SGFI has entrusted such a prestigious event to the state. Lt. General Parnaik (Retd.) noted that this accomplishment reflects Arunachal Pradesh’s increasing commitment to sports and youth development and demonstrates its preparedness to host national competitions of the highest caliber.

The Governor praised the Department of Education for their unwavering dedication in organizing this esteemed event.

He added that such competitions enrich the state’s sports calendar, motivate greater youth participation, and foster values such as discipline, teamwork, and healthy competition, which are essential for cultivating confident and resilient citizens.
