New Delhi, April 26 (NationPress) The Delhi Minister for Home and Urban Development, Ashish Sood, presented a comprehensive strategy on Saturday aimed at establishing the national capital as a "trusted medical hub".
He detailed the Delhi Government's initiatives to elevate the national capital as a leading global center for medical value travel, vowing to implement regulatory reforms and enhance infrastructure to fortify the city's healthcare framework.
This vision will be realized through the creation of a single-window system designed to streamline services for international patients, Sood announced during the FICCI's 5th Medical Value Travel Awards.
“Our goal is to position Delhi as a reliable and credible medical destination. The capital is often the initial entry point for numerous international travelers who subsequently journey to other states for medical treatment. We intend to cultivate Delhi's own medical tourism capabilities,” he stated.
Sood encouraged industry participants to join forces with the government to formulate policies for the establishment of hospitals, wellness centers, and Ayush facilities, in addition to accommodation options for visiting patients.
He highlighted that medical value travel has advanced beyond mere healthcare into becoming “a strategic term that shapes the future of India's economy, diplomacy, and global stature.”
Sudhanshu Pandey, Election Commissioner for Union Territories (UTs), emphasized the inclusion of healthcare among the 12 champion sectors identified by the government where “India can take a leadership role globally.”
Pandey, a former official from the Commerce Ministry, remarked that the medical tourism industry “creates jobs, generates employment, garners recognition, enhances soft power, and ultimately brings joy to households, both domestic and international.”
He also pointed out diagnostics as a “promising area for India” where the nation’s expertise could draw clients from neighboring countries.
The FICCI Medical Value Travel Awards acknowledged nominations from the medical value travel and wellness sector, presenting 16 winners and five special jury recognitions to organizations that have significantly contributed to reinforcing India as a leading medical value travel destination.
