Guwahati, June 11 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance the grassroots healthcare framework, the Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has sanctioned an increase in monthly allowances for ASHA workers and supervisors.
This decision was revealed by State Health Minister Ashok Singhal and State Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah during a press conference following the Cabinet assembly in Dispur on Tuesday.
According to the updated scheme, set to take effect on October 1, 2025, the monthly honorarium for over 33,600 ASHA workers in the state will rise from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000.
In a similar vein, ASHA supervisors will see their honorarium increase from Rs 9,000 to Rs 10,200, benefiting a total of 2,675 supervisors.
This initiative aims to provide a morale boost and financial assistance to the community health workers who are vital for rural healthcare outreach.
In a related development, the state Cabinet approved land allocations under Mission Basundhara 3.0 for non-individual juridical entities across four districts: Sonitpur, Golaghat, Majuli, and Kamrup.
A total of 1,011 proposals were approved for educational, religious, and socio-cultural institutions.
Among these, Sonitpur received the highest number of approvals with 464 entities, followed by Golaghat (306), Majuli (205), and Kamrup (36).
Additionally, 146 government institutions, including schools, health centers, Anganwadi centers, and government offices in Sonitpur and Golaghat districts, received land allotments in urban regions.
The state Cabinet also sanctioned a name change for the state's primary environmental agency, renaming the 'Pollution Control Board, Assam' to 'Assam Pollution Control Board' as part of a broader initiative to enhance institutional identity and functionality.
Emphasizing the government's commitment to cultural recognition, Minister Bimal Borah announced that the Srimanta Sankardeva Award for 2023 will be awarded to notable classical dancer Sonal Mansingh.
