Guwahati, June 11 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the arrest of two individuals in the state for their 'pro-Pakistan' comments made on social media.
The arrests took place in the districts of Nagaon and Lakhimpur.
The suspects have been identified as Sabikul Islam and Dulal Bora.
Islam was apprehended in Lakhimpur, while Bora was taken into custody by police in Nagaon.
According to CM Sarma, a total of 92 anti-nationals are currently behind bars for expressing sympathies towards Pakistan.
He stated, "Our systems are consistently monitoring anti-national posts on social media and responding with appropriate actions."
Among the 92 detainees, the most notable is Aminul Islam, an AIUDF MLA.
He was the first individual arrested in the state for his 'pro-Pakistan' comments.
Aminul Islam, representing Dhing Assembly in Assam, was arrested on May 1 under sedition charges due to his inflammatory remarks regarding a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives.
In a video that circulated on social media, the AIUDF leader claims that the attacks in Pahalgam and Pulwama were orchestrated as part of a "government conspiracy."
He stated, "Six years ago during the Pulwama RDX blast that killed 42 soldiers, I asserted that it was a conspiracy by the Central government to gain political advantage in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections."
He further alleged that the BJP has been propagating that the assailants targeted only Hindus while sparing Muslims, which he disputes by referencing testimonies from victims.
"If the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi fails to conduct a thorough investigation and seeks to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims, I will view this as a conspiracy," he added.
In response, Badruddin Ajmal, the AIUDF Chief, distanced the party from his legislator's remarks, stating, "AIUDF supports the government. Terrorism transcends religion, and those who engage in it contradict the essence of Islam."
