Kolkata, June 23 (NationPress) The initial trends from the vote counting on Monday for the June 19 bypoll in West Bengal have evolved.

Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed is currently in the lead with a margin of 4,549 votes, while BJP's candidate Ashish Ghosh has surged to second place, pushing the Left Front-supported Congress candidate Kabil Uddin Shaikh to third.

Initially, after the first round of counting, the Congress candidate had held the second position, with the BJP candidate trailing in third.

As of the second round of counting, Alifa Ahmed has received 8,725 votes, followed by Ashish Ghosh at 4,176 and Kabil Uddin Shaikh at 3,282 votes.

The Kaliganj constituency has a significant minority population, with Muslim voters making up nearly 60 percent of the electorate.
