Kolkata, Nov 4 (NationPress) On the inaugural day of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative that took place on Tuesday in West Bengal, a surprising case has emerged involving a Bangladeshi national residing in the region.
In a peculiar twist, his voter ID card mistakenly identifies his father-in-law as his father and his mother-in-law as his mother.
Moreover, the individual’s name was altered on the Voter ID card.
This incident has triggered significant outrage in the Hingalganj locality within the Basirhat area of North 24 Parganas district.
According to local reports, Rashidul Gazi originally hails from Bangladesh.
Residing in the Satkhira district, he is accused of entering India illegally in 2012.
After crossing the border through the Basirhat region, he allegedly traveled to Tamil Nadu for employment.
While there, he met Rumesh, a local resident of Hingalganj.
The two formed a romantic bond during their time in Tamil Nadu.
Eventually, Rashidul moved to Hingalganj with Rumesh.
In light of their relationship, they decided to tie the knot.
However, complications arose due to Rashidul's Bangladeshi citizenship.
This required the issuance of an identity card from his home country.
Reports suggest that the Voter ID was procured through unconventional means.
Rashidul's name was changed shortly after their marriage.
His new name became Abdul Gazi.
Surprisingly, his name also appeared on the voter list for booth number 208 in Paschimpara, Hingalganj.
Upon discovering the discrepancies in the identity card, the issue was brought to the attention of local law enforcement.
"We are aware of the situation and are investigating it. No formal complaints have been filed yet," stated a senior officer from the Basirhat district police.
The district administration has now been notified of the incident.
