Kolkata, Jan 11 (NationPress) Tragically, one of the four individuals who suffered severe burns from a significant explosion at a firecracker manufacturing facility in the Champahati region of South 24 Parganas has passed away, according to police reports.

As per the reports, Gouhari Ganguly lost his battle with burns around 1:30 a.m. at MR Bangur Hospital, where he was receiving medical care.

A senior Kolkata Police official stated, "In the early hours of Sunday, one of the critically injured individuals succumbed to their injuries while in the hospital."

"Ganguly, approximately 70 years old, suffered from about 80 percent burns and ultimately succumbed," the official added.

Meanwhile, the health status of the other three individuals—Gour Gangopadhyay, Kishan Mandal, and Rahul Mandal—remains critical.

According to police sources, investigations into the explosion, which took place on Saturday, are ongoing, and the owner of the firecracker factory is currently evading authorities.

The incident occurred in Haral village within the Champahati area of the Baruipur police station.

Immediately following the explosion, the Fire Department was alerted.

In response, a fire engine was dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Baruipur Police District, Rupantar Sengupta, mentioned that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Local reports indicated that a loud explosion was heard at the firecracker factory.

Several workers were present and actively engaged in firecracker production when the explosion occurred. The force of the blast was so intense that part of the facility was obliterated, and a large tree nearby ignited as well.

The Baruipur Police Station was promptly notified, and officers arrived quickly at the scene. The injured were initially hospitalized at Baruipur Super Speciality Hospital before being transferred to MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata.

Residents claimed that the explosion originated from the "house" of firecracker trader Pintu Mondal.
