Kolkata, Nov 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, announced on Monday that Yatri Sathi, the state’s own ride-hailing app managed by the Information Technology & Electronics (IT&E) department, has been honored with an award from the Union government.
In her social media update, she expressed, “This is a proud moment for West Bengal! Yatri Sathi, developed by the IT&E Department, has received the Award of Excellence along with the running trophy for Best Urban Transport Project from MoHUA, Government of India.”
Furthermore, the Chief Minister stated that the Yatri Sathi model has inspired adoption in multiple other states. To date, it has facilitated over 1.42 crore rides, positively impacting over 1.3 lakh drivers and 45 lakh passengers.
She added, “My heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved in this remarkable achievement. What Bengal envisions today, India will follow tomorrow.”
The Yatri Sathi app was launched by the state’s IT&E Department with the aim of integrating traditional metered yellow taxis in Kolkata into a single payment system, eliminating surge pricing and commissions while reducing the role of middlemen.
The West Bengal government has provided Yatri Sathi decals for drivers' vehicles, resulting in over 60 percent of the city’s yellow, blue, and white taxis transitioning to this platform by October 2023.
In May 2025, the app introduced “Where Is My Bus,” a real-time feature that delivers public bus service updates. The app now also allows users to book bike taxis, bus tickets, and ambulances, along with parcel delivery services and tickets to popular Kolkata tourist spots.
Moreover, the app includes SOS buttons for both passengers and drivers in case of emergencies.
