Kolkata, Oct 31 (NationPress) A viral video depicts a district chairman of the Trinamool Congress seemingly threatening booth-level officers (BLOs) with being tied up if they do not present the complete voters' list from 2000 during door-to-door verification for the upcoming special intensive revision of electoral rolls, set to commence on November 4.

In the video, Girindranath Barman, the Trinamool Congress’ Cooch Behar district chairman, stated, “Today, we declare on behalf of the Trinamool Congress that every BLO, as the agent of the Election Commission, must bring the complete voters’ list from the year 2000. If they fail, we will tie them up.”

Barman emphasized that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission, not any political party, to clarify the absence of names from the rolls.

“Since the BLOs represent the Election Commission, we will tie them up as directed by our leader Abhishek Banerjee. This is a national concern, not a matter for any political party. Every valid voter must be accounted for. The minority votes are at risk,” Barman asserted in the footage.

Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, shared the video on social media, tagging the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal and seeking action.

However, IANS could not independently verify the video's authenticity.

Adhikari accused these statements of being a direct challenge to the Election Commission’s authority and an attempt to intimidate its field officers.

“This is not just an isolated outburst from a fringe individual. It reflects TMC’s broader strategy to exploit the special intensive revision process. They are averse to cleansing our electoral rolls, which have long been inflated by ghosts, infiltrators, and fakes,” Adhikari commented.

“How can BLOs, often regular government workers, perform their duties when TMC’s operatives openly threaten to bind and restrain them?” he questioned.
