Bihar Cabinet clears 23 proposals; CM cites ₹13 lakh crore Centre support
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Bihar Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday, 12 October 2026, approved 23 agenda items in Patna, covering infrastructure, healthcare, and state development. Addressing reporters after the meeting, Choudhary highlighted the state's progress under what he described as a 'double-engine government', and said Bihar had received approximately ₹13 lakh crore from the Centre over the past 12 years.
Cabinet's Acknowledgement of Centre's Support
Chief Minister Choudhary said the Council of Ministers had formally resolved to express gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his contribution to Bihar's development. He noted that Modi had completed 25 years in leadership roles — beginning as Gujarat Chief Minister on 7 October 2001 and subsequently serving as Prime Minister from 26 May 2014. Choudhary also reiterated his government's commitment to working with the Centre to accelerate development, stating that Bihar would play a significant role in India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Healthcare Infrastructure Expansion
The Chief Minister pointed to substantial growth in Bihar's medical education sector. The number of medical colleges in the state has risen from 13 to 31, while MBBS student intake capacity has grown from 1,310 to 4,710, according to Choudhary. He attributed this expansion to central government support. Additionally, Bihar's second AIIMS facility is under construction in Darbhanga, following the earlier establishment of AIIMS Patna. The Darbhanga project is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹2,000 crore.
Social Welfare and Women's Empowerment
Choudhary highlighted the reported reach of the Ayushman Bharat health scheme, stating that around 90 per cent of families in the state had reportedly benefited. On women's economic empowerment, he said more than 50 lakh women had become Lakhpati Didis through livelihood initiatives aimed at strengthening financial independence.
Infrastructure Projects Underway
The Chief Minister outlined a range of ongoing connectivity and infrastructure projects across the state. These include work on eight new bridges and the resumption of construction on several previously stalled bridge projects. Active work is underway in Buxar, Sonepur, Bhagalpur, and the Kahalgaon–Kataiya corridor. A six-lane road is also planned between Begusarai and Suryagarha.
What's Next for Bihar
Choudhary indicated the state government would continue collaborating with the Centre to expand connectivity and improve public services. With the 2047 Viksit Bharat goal in focus, Bihar's pace of infrastructure rollout and healthcare reforms will be closely watched by both state administrators and central planners in the months ahead.
