Patna, Nov 14 (NationPress) As the counting process for the Bihar Assembly elections commenced on Friday, early data from the Election Commission indicates a significant lead for the NDA and a setback for the Mahagathbandhan. By 10 AM, the poll panel reported the NDA ahead in 127 seats, while the grand alliance was leading in 42 constituencies.
Notably, the JD(U) has risen to the top position, establishing itself as the largest party.
The counting of all 243 Assembly seats began at 8 AM, starting with postal ballot verification, followed by counting the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) votes from 8:30 AM. This is being conducted under stringent multi-tier security across the state.
As per the Election Commission of India’s early reports by 10:00 AM, the BJP was leading in 50 seats, JD(U) in 58, LJP(RV) in 15, and HAMS in four. For the Opposition, the RJD was leading in 30 seats, Congress in 10, and CPI(ML)(L) in 2.
Candidates from both alliances expressed optimism about their results. NDA leaders stated that the people of Bihar had shown trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurances and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s efforts towards the state’s progress.
Conversely, the Mahagathbandhan, spearheaded by the RJD, asserted that Bihar had “voted for change” and expressed hope that Tejashwi Yadav would lead the next government.
The counting process is being overseen by 243 Returning Officers alongside an equal number of Counting Observers designated by the Election Commission.
Over 18,000 counting agents from various candidates are on-site to vigilantly monitor the proceedings.
Access to counting centers is strictly limited to those with valid passes, and mobile phones are prohibited within the counting halls.
This election saw participation from over 70 crore voters who cast their votes to determine the future for both the ruling NDA and the Mahagathbandhan. Voting occurred in two phases on November 6 and 11.
In the current Assembly, the NDA holds 131 seats, including 80 from BJP, 45 from JD(U), four from HAM(S), and two independents. The Opposition bloc comprises 111 seats, with RJD holding 77, Congress 19, CPI(ML) 11, CPI(M) two, and CPI two.
