A resident from Khagra, Owais Ansari, reported to the Vigilance Department that Rajdeep Paswan, a revenue staff member, was soliciting an unlawful sum of Rs 2,50,000 for completing land mutation procedures.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Vigilance team executed a covert investigation, which validated the claims. Consequently, a sting operation was initiated.
On Tuesday, a team of seven Vigilance officers descended upon the block office vicinity.
During this operation, Rajdeep Paswan was caught red-handed near Abhishek Hotel while taking the bribe, with cash seized on-site.
Post-arrest, Rajdeep Paswan is undergoing interrogation. Vigilance DSP Vinod Kumar noted that prompt action was taken following Owais Ansari's complaint.
The inquiry confirmed the demand for a bribe, leading to the employee's arrest in a meticulously planned operation.
The DSP emphasized the Vigilance Department's resolve to enforce stringent measures against corruption, assuring that such operations will persist.
The news of the arrest sent shockwaves through the block office, with several employees seen hastily exiting the premises.
The Vigilance team is now preparing to transport the detained employee to Patna for subsequent legal proceedings.
In a parallel crackdown on corruption, the Patna Vigilance Department detained Rakesh Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer in Dalsinghsarai, Samastipur district, while he was accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 40,000.
His assistant, Lalan Kumar, was also taken into custody during the operation.
The complaint indicated that Rakesh Kumar was demanding payment in exchange for permitting the establishment of a shop in the Market Committee’s vegetable market.
Following the complaint, the Vigilance team conducted verification, and upon confirming the allegations, set up a trap.
They apprehended Rakesh Kumar within his office, inciting panic among staff. Both the officer and his assistant are now in custody for questioning.
