The internships are set to be available for students pursuing 4-year degree courses, 5-year integrated degree courses, postgraduate degrees, and diploma programmes. The 8-week internship will encompass pre-standardisation activities in two essential sectors: QCO (Quality Control Order) compliance surveys in partnership with BIS offices, along with site visits to major units, MSMEs, and laboratories, as per the announcement.
Interns will engage in comprehensive analyses concerning manufacturing and testing procedures, raw materials, in-process controls, and various facets of product quality and conformity assessments.
During the recent annual convention of BIS Standardisation Chairs and Nodal Faculty from MoU Partner Institutions, standardisation modules have been integrated into the curricula of 15 institutes, while over 130 research and development projects have been initiated.
More than 50 institutions have set up BIS Corners and Academic Dashboards, leading to the establishment of a total of 198 Standards Clubs across 52 institutes.
BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari expressed that this collaboration represents a collective national effort to instill a culture of quality and standardisation within academia. Deputy Director General, Standardisation, Rajeev Sharma, urged institutions to promote action-oriented partnerships and actively engage in enhancing the country’s quality framework.
The convention featured technical discussions on curriculum integration, standards formulation, student participation through Standards Clubs, and various promotional initiatives. In an open forum, partner institutions exchanged best practices and innovative collaboration models.
The event concluded with a unified commitment to bolster the culture of standardisation throughout Indian academia, empowering both students and faculty to engage meaningfully with national and international quality systems, the statement concluded.
Representatives from 58 partner institutes were present at the convention. Five institutions— IIT Roorkee, SSEC Chennai, NIT Jalandhar, SVCE Chennai, and PSNACET Dindigul—were recognized for their outstanding contributions to BIS-related initiatives as per the MoU.
