Patna, July 20 (NationPress) In light of ongoing criticisms regarding the law-and-order scenario in Bihar, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Shambhu Sharan Patel acknowledged a recent uptick in crime rates within the state, yet asserted that the NDA government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, remains dedicated to the principle of good governance.
“While we cannot ignore the rise in crime in Bihar, our party and the NDA administration, under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, are steadfast in our commitment to good governance, which has always been our core principle,” Patel stated.
He pointed out that Nitish Kumar's prolonged tenure in power is a testament to his success in restoring peace in the state, effectively ending the notorious period of ‘jungle raj’ characterized by rampant organized crime.
Responding to criticism from RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Patel suggested that Yadav should reflect on the governance of his parents from 1990 to 2005.
“We do acknowledge an increase in crime, but it does not compare to the organized crime that occurred during the RJD’s 15-year rule,” he emphasized.
Patel highlighted that during that era, the Shahabad and Magadh divisions were fraught with caste violence, leading to several massacres in districts like Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur, Gaya, and Jehanabad.
“In Siwan, Saran, and Gopalganj, Mohammad Shahabuddin was in control, while the Kosi and Seemanchal regions had notorious figures connected to the RJD,” he claimed.
He further recounted a troubling incident where the wife of an IAS officer was sexually assaulted for an extended period in Patna during that time.
“Such incidents are not occurring in Bihar today. Although crime rates have risen, both Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are fully capable of addressing these issues to uphold good governance in the state,” Patel asserted.
Recently, Patna has been struck by a series of murders.
On July 17, a group of five armed individuals invaded Paras Hospital within the Shastri Nagar police station jurisdiction, resulting in the death of gangster Chandan Mishra inside his hospital room.
The assailants arrived on motorcycles, accessed room number 209 on the second floor, and opened fire, killing him instantly.
Additionally, the city has witnessed several high-profile murders lately, including those of esteemed industrialist Gopal Khemka, sand trader Ramakant Yadav, grocery trader Vikram Jha, advocate Jitendra Kumar, and others.
