Kolkata, Feb 11 (NationPress) BJP MP from Purulia constituency in West Bengal, Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, on Tuesday appealed to Governor C. V. Ananda Bose, urging him to ensure the safety of former West Bengal Education Minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee, a key figure in the multi-crore cash for school job scandal, alleging a threat to his life.
Chatterjee, who was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in July 2022 regarding the school job controversy, is presently hospitalized at a private medical facility in Kolkata due to a reported decline in his health.
Initially, he was admitted to the state-operated S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital after being moved from the Presidency Central Correctional home, and later transferred to the private hospital.
In his correspondence to the Governor, a copy of which has been shared with IANS, Mahato conveyed his concerns about a potential life threat to Chatterjee at the private hospital.
Mahato noted that the abrupt transfer of Chatterjee from S.S.K.M. to the private hospital has raised significant alarms, especially since the state-run facility has been traditionally viewed as a “safe haven” for “Trinamool Congress leaders involved in criminal activities.
“I have obtained credible information from a trustworthy source indicating that as the case approaches closure, leaders of the Trinamool Congress may seek to eliminate Partha Chatterjee to silence him permanently. Given the seriousness of this information, I implore you to guarantee his safety at all costs. Any harm to him would have a direct impact on the judicial process and prevent the people of West Bengal from discovering the truth about the scam,” Mahato's letter to the Governor stated.
Moreover, Mahato requested the Governor to disband the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) indefinitely and instead form a high-level expert committee to establish a new, transparent recruitment board that ensures fair hiring processes devoid of political interference.
He also emphasized that the recent remarks by the Supreme Court regarding the school-jobs case confirmed that the WBSSC had consistently acted against the interests of legitimate job seekers.
