New Delhi, Nov 14 (NationPress) In a highly competitive election season in Bihar's recent political landscape, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track to emerge as the largest political entity, as per preliminary data from the Election Commission of India. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is projected to lead in approximately 200 seats, surpassing the critical majority threshold of 122.
Currently, the BJP is leading in 94 constituencies, signaling a noteworthy victory for the party in Bihar in the past 45 years.
These figures represent a significant transformation in Bihar's political landscape compared to earlier electoral cycles.
In the 2010 Assembly elections, the NDA—bolstered by the powerful JDU-BJP alliance—achieved a sweeping victory, claiming 206 out of 243 seats, with the JD(U) winning 115 and the BJP 91.
The scenario shifted dramatically in 2015, when the BJP's seat count dropped to 53, following the formation of the Mahagathbandhan (MGB) led by Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and the Congress.
The 2020 Assembly elections featured the closest race in over a decade, with the NDA securing 125 seats, just above the majority line, while the MGB garnered 110.
The RJD became the largest party with 75 seats, narrowly followed by the BJP at 74. The JD(U) saw a decrease to 43 seats.
However, the trends for 2025 suggest a remarkable turnaround: the BJP has not only regained its previous losses but is also set to significantly outpace the RJD and its long-standing partner, the JD(U).
Historically, the BJP's seat counts include 37 seats in 2005, 67 seats in 2000, 41 seats in 1995, 39 seats in 1990, 16 seats in 1985, and 21 seats in 1980.
If the current leads maintain, the results from Friday could signify the BJP's most decisive standalone performance in Bihar's electoral history—altering dynamics within the NDA and paving the way for a new political chapter in the state.
