Palakkad, Aug 30 (NationPress) Members of the BJP rallied to the office of Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in Kerala's Palakkad on Friday to voice their discontent against the politician, who is currently entangled in sexual misconduct allegations.
The police deployed water cannons to break up the gathering of BJP supporters.
BJP leader C. Krishnakumar asserted that Mamkootathil would be barred from participating in any official or public functions within the Palakkad constituency.
This protest coincides with the initiation of a special investigation team from the Crime Branch of the Kerala Police, which has launched an inquiry into claims of stalking and harassment directed at Mamkootathil.
In light of the accusations, last week, the Congress party removed him from his position as the president of the Youth Congress and subsequently suspended him from the party.
"Regardless of whether he engages in programs organized by clubs or local associations as an MLA, we will obstruct him. Event organizers must decide on inviting Rahul or not," stated Krishnakumar.
Interestingly, during the November 2024 Palakkad Assembly by-election, Krishnakumar lost to Mamkootathil.
His comments emerged as reports suggested that a faction within the Congress party is actively supporting Mamkootathil and attempting to reintegrate him into local events.
Krishnakumar also criticized Congress leader Sandeep Warrier, dismissing his allegations as unfounded.
"Sandeep is wandering like a lost soul. Even the Congress does not back his claims. The information I provided in my election affidavit is entirely accurate. Within the Congress, Sandeep is struggling to remain relevant. Why should we come to his aid?" he questioned.
Meanwhile, the police probe team is determined to uncover the truth behind the allegations of sexual misconduct that have come to light, and they are preparing to meet with the individuals who made the accusations.
To date, there have been no formal complaints filed against Mamkootathil, leaving the probe team puzzled.
The special investigation team has commenced its work by examining cyber evidence, with technical officers now involved in the inquiry.
On the political landscape, Congress MP Shafi Parambil is making efforts to reinstate his close associate Mamkootathil in Palakkad.
Since the emergence of the sexual misconduct allegations, Mamkootathil has remained at his residence in Pathanamthitta.
