Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec 15 (NationPress) - The BJP in Karnataka is advocating for a one-week extension of the winter session at Suvarna Soudha, originally set to end on December 19.
The Leader of Opposition, R. Ashoka, has formally requested this extension in a letter to Speaker U.T. Khader.
On Monday, he stated, “I have sent a written appeal to Speaker U.T. Khader, urging for a one-week extension of the ongoing winter session at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.”
According to Ashoka, “Members have raised numerous critical issues concerning North Karnataka, requiring responses from the Chief Minister and his cabinet. Furthermore, there is a pressing need for adequate time to discuss vital topics, including the worsening law and order situation and the underwhelming fund utilization across various government departments.”
He expressed confidence that the Speaker will grant his request to extend the session by a week.
In his letter to Speaker Khader, Ashoka explained, “The winter session is scheduled from December 8 to December 19. However, due to various circumstances, two days were cut from the 10-day agenda. Numerous pressing matters regarding the state remain unresolved. To address these issues effectively, we are requesting a one-week extension.”
While criticizing the Congress-led government, Ashoka noted, “With only 3.5 months remaining in the 2025-26 financial year, just Rs 2.06 lakh crore has been utilized of the Rs 4.09 lakh crore budget allocated to 47 government departments by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.”
He highlighted the poor performance of departments managed by Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR), IT and BT Priyank Kharge, and Minister for Labour Santosh S. Lad, stating, “Expenditure is merely 20% in IT-BT, 29% in Labour, and 30% in RDPR. Instead of engaging in trivial politics, I urge the ministers to focus on their responsibilities and enhance departmental performance.”
