New Delhi, July 20 (NationPress) On Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fiercely criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for his call for a clarification from the government regarding US President Donald Trump's vague comments about five jets being downed during Operation Sindoor.
Labeling him as a 'star campaigner' for Pakistan, the BJP alleged that Gandhi was undermining the valor of the Indian armed forces while promoting narratives favored by Pakistani media.
This backlash came after Gandhi's response to Trump's statements made during a private dinner on Friday. The US President mentioned that five jets were shot down during Operation Sindoor, which was India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack in April, but did not specify whether the aircraft belonged to India or Pakistan.
On Saturday, Gandhi shared a video clip of Trump’s remarks on X, asking in Hindi, "Modi ji, what is the truth behind the five jets? The country has a right to know."
The BJP rebuked Gandhi's post, asserting that while he opposes Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he is ultimately questioning the integrity of the nation and its armed forces. They accused him of consistently demoralizing the military with such statements.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal stated to IANS, "This isn’t a new occurrence. Historically, Congress and opposition parties have questioned the bravery of our armed forces. They need to realize that this is PM Modi's India, and he knows how to make and execute decisions. Anyone who thinks India will be dominated is mistaken."
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh also criticized Gandhi, stating, "Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress and the INDIA bloc have become advocates for Pakistani propaganda. Their only goal is to disseminate misinformation, which is regrettable."
Chugh added that by opposing the government's diplomatic and military strategies, the Opposition is beginning to resemble the 'tukde-tukde gang' and is opposing the nation itself.
JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that Gandhi's statements harm the morale of the armed forces.
"They should be questioned whether they are speaking for India's interests or against them. Such statements demoralize the country and the army. What occurred internationally? His party leaders also participated in that delegation and presented their perspective, while the Indian Army held a press conference to clarify everything. How did the Indian Army respond?" asked Jha.
He further stated, "In opposing PM Modi, he ends up opposing the nation. He lacks the awareness of when to speak. The nation has started to disregard his statements, which is why the Congress party keeps losing elections."
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal also criticized Gandhi, saying, "He acted similarly after the Pulwama incident and the surgical strikes. He shows no concern for India. When the Galwan Valley clashes occurred, he was busy dining with the Chinese ambassador. He even attended the wedding of the son of George Soros, whose aim is to undermine Indian democracy. One cannot expect patriotism from Rahul Gandhi."
