New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) The recent contentious statements made by Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman, who labeled 16th-century Rajput monarch Rana Sanga a "traitor," have elicited strong reactions from the BJP and VHP. They have demanded an explanation from the SP leader and questioned his supposed admiration for the Mughals, implying he should adopt Islam if that is indeed the case.

In an interview with IANS, Surendra Gupta, the VHP State President, voiced his disappointment over Suman’s comments, stating, "Ramji Lal Suman claims to descend from Rana Sanga, yet his statements indicate otherwise. It's perplexing that he aligns himself with Babur, a Mughal invader, while making disparaging remarks about his own ancestry. This kind of political discourse, aimed at distorting history, is intolerable."

BJP leader Ajay Alok also criticized Suman’s remarks, deeming them "highly condemnable." He highlighted the bravery of Rana Sanga, a formidable warrior who valiantly fought against the Mughals, sustaining 70 injuries in the process.

"Rana Sanga was a patriot who dedicated his life to defending the nation. For anyone, especially a political leader, to insult such a historic figure is disgraceful. If they genuinely admire the Mughals, they might as well consider embracing Islam," Alok remarked.

The uproar began after Ramji Lal Suman defended his comments about Rana Sanga during a debate in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. He argued that his remarks were grounded in historical facts found in Baburnama, the memoir of Mughal emperor Babur. He also noted that Indian Muslims do not regard Babur as their leader.

Suman’s remarks, made during a Rajya Sabha discussion regarding the Home Ministry's operations on Friday, have prompted sharp criticism from various political factions.

He made the contentious assertion while addressing the BJP's recurrent comments on the historical lineage of Indian Muslims. While participating in a discussion about the Home Ministry, he referred to Rana Sanga's involvement in inviting Babur to India, which he claimed resulted in the establishment of Mughal sovereignty and labeled the Rajput ruler a "traitor."

Suman stood firm in his statement, saying, "It is a historical fact. Nowadays, it is common to assert that Indian Muslims possess the DNA of Babur. However, the reality is that Muslims in India do not consider Babur as their leader. Babur did not arrive with religion; he came with a sword. The values of Indian Muslims are rooted in the heritage of Sufi saints."
