Kolkata, April 12 (NationPress) The BJP's IT Cell leader and central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, on Saturday criticized the Mamata government for permitting ongoing violence in various regions of the state under the guise of protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
In a post on X, Malviya shared an image of a distressed Hindu woman whose shop was destroyed in Samserganj, located in the minority-majority Murshidabad district of West Bengal, by a mob protesting against the Waqf Act.
“Today it is Samserganj—tomorrow, it could be your neighborhood. What wrong did this Hindu woman do? What link does she have to the Waqf? Why was her modest means of survival turned to ashes, Mamata Banerjee? Where was the West Bengal Police? If you still think this violence in the name of Waqf is simply about one legislation, keep deceiving yourself,” Malviya's post stated.
Various areas of Murshidabad, including Jangipur, Samserganj, Suti, and Nimtita, have been experiencing unrest for several days due to protests from a specific community against the Waqf Act.
While the state police insisted that the situation in these troubled areas is largely normal, Malviya dismissed these assertions.
“In spite of the West Bengal government's claims of normality, the situation remains tense in many regions. Mamata Banerjee is prepared to let the state suffer for her political agenda,” Malviya's statement asserted.
On Friday night, West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose shared a video message, noting that his office had received alarming reports about individuals taking the law into their own hands in certain parts of Bengal.
He also mentioned that after receiving warnings about potential disturbances in parts of West Bengal, he held a confidential discussion with Chief Minister Banerjee.
“The Chief Secretary assured that the government is taking decisive action against the offenders and will prevent any escalation of unrest. The state is on alert. All measures will be executed against wrongdoers. No one will be permitted to take the law into their own hands,” the Governor concluded.
