Hyderabad, March 6 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, referred to the BJP's triumph in the Telangana MLC elections as a ‘Ramzan gift’ for the Congress party.
“Hope the Congress enjoys the Ramzan gift… Pandaga cheskondi (celebrate the festival),” the MoS posted on X on Thursday, shortly after BJP’s Chinnamail Anji Reddy was announced the winner from the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ segment.
Earlier, while speaking to reporters in Karimnagar, the BJP leader likened the MLC election to an India-Pakistan cricket match. “There was a match between India and Pakistan. India has won,” he remarked.
Bandi Sanjay, recognized for his provocative statements, had previously claimed during campaigning that the MLC elections resembled a cricket match.
“Just like the Indian team met the expectations of cricket enthusiasts by clinching victory, the BJP will also meet the hopes of graduates and teachers by winning the MLC elections,” he asserted.
“Another match will take place on February 27. We are the India team, and they (Congress) are the Pakistan team. Voters should reflect and choose. If you want India to win, vote for us. If you prefer Pakistan to win, vote for them,” he stated on February 26, just a day before the polls.
His statements sparked backlash from the ruling Congress party, which accused him of fueling communal tensions.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that it’s a longstanding habit of BJP leaders to gain political advantage in every election by instigating communal discord.
Sanjay, a Lok Sabha member from Karimnagar, celebrated BJP's victory in Karimnagar alongside party officials.
“The verdict makes it abundantly clear that no one can hinder Bharat's triumph globally and the Bhartiya Janata Party's success in this nation,” he proclaimed.
The Minister of State indicated that the countdown for Congress's government has begun. He asserted that the people of Telangana are seeking change and are looking towards the BJP.
Bandi Sanjay remarked that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others have been questioning EVMs, but the BJP has succeeded in elections conducted through ballot papers.
Anji Reddy triumphed over Congress party’s Narender Reddy by nearly 5,000 votes. The saffron party has reclaimed the seat from the Congress.
The BJP secured two out of three MLC seats contested on February 27.
BJP-endorsed candidate Malka Komaraiah emerged victorious from the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency.
