New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) As the Opposition continued to conduct loud protests in Parliament, demanding an immediate discourse on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, several prominent BJP leaders and allies retaliated fiercely on Tuesday. They accused the Opposition of misleading the public and creating controversies for political gain.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a pointed attack, labeling the Opposition's protest as a stain on democracy. He stated to reporters, “This is merely a performance and nothing more. When elections occur in Bengal, there is no vote theft; when a government is established in Karnataka, there is no vote theft; when a government is formed in Himachal Pradesh, there is no vote theft. These individuals are shameless and a stain on democracy.”
Reaffirming the government's stance, Singh remarked, “The government is always open to discussion.”
In Bihar, Minister Dilip Jaiswal defended the SIR initiative, branding the Opposition’s claims as baseless. “The Opposition shamelessly discusses SIR. When SIR was introduced in Bihar, over seven crore voters accepted it, and the Hon’ble Supreme Court extensively examined it and deemed SIR valid. Even after this, if the Congress and the Opposition persist in acting against democracy and the Constitution, the public will never pardon the Congress and the INDIA bloc...” he asserted.
RLM National President Upendra Kushwaha also charged the Opposition with fabricating an issue where none exists. “The Opposition is futilely attempting to create a fuss over SIR. During the recent Bihar elections, RJD and Congress leaders repeatedly asserted that votes were being stolen, yet no evidence ever corroborated those claims...”
“They are making a commotion over an inconsequential matter. The Opposition has already witnessed the Bihar elections, where no instances of vote theft were reported. The Opposition lacks any genuine issues to raise,” he continued.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya echoed this sentiment, stating, “Those who oppose SIR, the people are opposing them.”
Uttar Pradesh Minister Jaiveer Singh ardently defended the ongoing revision process. “I believe SIR’s work is sincerely directed at compiling the names of all eligible voters and ensuring a clean and precise voter list across all 12 states. The Opposition, in their arrogance and powerlessness, is consistently losing public trust in elections through such actions...” he stated.
UP Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar insisted that the process is transparent and well-regulated. “They are disseminating a multitude of lies; there is no such issue. We are also conducting thorough checks, even going door-to-door. Our BLOs, appointed officials, teachers, and panchayat assistants, are properly listed, and all names are being accurately filled in the forms. There are no problems anywhere. Names are being removed only of those who have either relocated or passed away...”
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi criticized what he termed as habitual obstruction by the Opposition parties.
“The power-hungry leaders and their family members, along with those managing the party’s franchise, have developed a tendency to attack every reform. The entire election process under SIR does not encroach on anyone’s voting rights. The whole election process respects the rights of every voter,” he stated.
Opposition parties, alleging “vote theft” through the SIR process, continue to demand a comprehensive debate in Parliament. Their protests have resulted in multiple disruptions in the House as they push for government accountability regarding electoral roll revisions.
