Kolkata, Oct 12 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully apprehended a gold smuggler at the India-Bangladesh border, with the valuable metal being turned over to the appropriate authorities, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to a statement from the BSF, the 32 Battalion of the South Bengal Frontier, stationed at the Horandipur Border Outpost, made a notable breakthrough by catching an Indian smuggler in the act.
Acting on precise and trustworthy intelligence, the troops seized 20 gold biscuits totaling 2332.66 grams. The estimated worth of the confiscated gold is around Rs 2.82 crore, as reported by officials.
On Saturday night, personnel from the 32 Battalion, based at Horandipur BOP, received credible information from confidential sources indicating that an individual from Muslimpara village near the India-Bangladesh border was attempting to smuggle gold imported from Bangladesh through the Horandipur region.
Upon receiving this tip-off, the on-duty officials heightened their alert status and established a special ambush at the suspected site to catch the smuggler during the act.
At approximately 6 a.m. on Sunday, the ambush team spotted a suspicious figure moving carefully behind a dense bamboo thicket, officials stated.
"The individual was quickly surrounded and detained. A subsequent search revealed a plastic packet containing 20 gold biscuits. The smuggler was taken into custody and brought to the Horandipur BOP for further interrogation," they added.
The confiscated gold biscuits and the detained suspect were forwarded to the appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings.
