BSP to Stand Alone in Delhi Elections: Mayawati

New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati has stated that the party will independently participate in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, with complete preparation and strength.

In a post on the social media platform X, Mayawati expressed, "The general election for the Delhi Assembly is scheduled for February 5, 2025, and the announcement by the Election Commission is a positive development. The BSP will compete in this election, relying on its own strength and preparation. We anticipate that the party will achieve a commendable performance in this election."

She emphasized the significance of elections in maintaining democracy and reiterated the party's commitment to the upliftment of the poor and marginalized sections of society.

"Elections are the foundation of democracy, and as a party devoted to the advancement of the underprivileged, we hope the Election Commission will guarantee that these elections are free from communalism and other detrimental influences, including the misuse of governmental resources," she remarked on X.

Mayawati also urged voters to remain discerning, advising them not to be misled by enticing promises from other political parties and to cast their votes wisely for BSP candidates.

"I urge voters to resist the allure of tempting pledges from any party and to exercise their voting rights judiciously by supporting BSP candidates who prioritize public interest and welfare. This is where public and national interests are secure," she noted in her message.

Earlier on Tuesday, former BSP leader Madan Mohan and his wife Sudeshwati joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of AAP MP Sanjay Singh.

On January 1, Jasvir Singh Garhi, the former President of the Punjab unit of BSP, also joined AAP.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has disclosed the schedule for the Delhi Assembly elections.

The elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with the vote counting set for February 8. The deadline for filing nominations is January 17, followed by nomination scrutiny on January 18, and the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is January 20.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused AAP leaders of corruption and misgovernance, while AAP, aiming for a third consecutive term, is concentrating on promoting its accomplishments in education and healthcare.

For the New Delhi seat, the BJP has nominated Parvesh Verma, former MP and son of ex-Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, to contest against Arvind Kejriwal.

The Congress party has also entered the contest with Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, vying for the same seat.

The BJP has put forth former MP Ramesh Bidhuri against Delhi CM Atishi in the Kalkaji constituency, while Congress has fielded former MLA Alka Lamba.

The Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced challenges in the last two Assembly elections, failing to secure any seats.

In contrast, AAP dominated the 2020 Assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP managed to secure just eight seats.
